Patents and utility models as technical intellectual property rights should enable the inventors to acknowledge the economic value associated with the inventive achievement and to convert it into corresponding economical success. Besides the application for and the acquisition of solely national patents the clients of Hentrich® Patent- & Rechtsanwaltspartnerschaft mbB have the possibility to make use of international treaties like the European Patent Convention (EPC), the Eurasian Patent Convention (EAPC) and the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).

Furthermore, the patent specifications and other publications are also an important source of technical knowledge, which can be obtained by searches and which can be used for own technological developments.

Actions before GPTO and/or EPO:

• German Patents can be filed in any language. A translation into German language has to be filed 3 months after filing date. Appointment of a representative is neccessary if applicant is not resided or established in Germany.
• European Patents can be filed in any language, whereas a translation into German, English or French has to be filed within appropriate time limits. Appointment of a Professional representative is neccessary if applicant is not resided or established in an EPC member state.
• Validation of European patents in Germany is possible. No translation into German language is needed.
• Time limit for entering National stage in Germany is 30 months from priority date, whereas the translation into German language has to be filed within the same term.
